Memorial Photo Prints: A Careful Selection and Display Guide

A memorial photo print starts with a photograph the family wants to see, a careful scan or original file and a crop checked at the actual output ratio. Choose a measured dry indoor wall or desk location and select the finish for its light. Bolot photo prints have no UV laminate and are not exterior or gravesite products; no special-order exterior route is available.

A memorial photograph is deeply personal. The right image may be a fine portrait. It may also be a plain, everyday moment that close family know at once. Treat the choice, any repair and the gift as personal decisions, not a set formula.

Choose the Photograph With the People Who Will See It

Begin with a small group of candidates. For each one, ask:

  • Does the look feel true to how you remember them?
  • Are the other people in the shot happy to be shown?
  • Does the background show private details, strangers or clutter?
  • Will the final crop keep hands, hair, clothing and any setting that matters?
  • Is the file an original, a scan or a copy pulled from a message?

You need not choose the most recent photo. Some families want a candid shot. Others want a formal portrait, or the person doing what they loved. If the print is a gift and you are unsure, ask a close relative first.

Work From the Best Available Source

For a digital photo, find the camera or phone original. Skip a screenshot, a social download or a chat-app copy. Note its pixel size and keep it as is.

For a printed photo:

  1. lift loose dust without scratching it;
  2. scan it flat at a setting that fits the source size and how big you plan to print;
  3. save a full-quality master file before you edit;
  4. make any repairs on a spare copy; and
  5. check the edited face, hair and clothing against the original at 100%.

A high DPI setting makes more pixels. It cannot add detail that a small, soft or screened source never held. Old newspaper and magazine prints can carry fine halftone dots. Those dots turn plain to see once you scale them up. Pro scanning can help with fragile, prized or badly curled photos. It is not needed for every family snapshot.

Restore Conservatively

A repair can lift scratches, dust, colour casts and patchy fading. It can also change a face if the software rebuilds features too far.

Keep the master scan, then check the repair beside it. Zoom in on eyes, teeth, glasses, jewellery, hands and patterned cloth. If you used an AI tool, tell the family. Do not treat its added detail as real.

Adding colour to a black-and-white photo is a creative choice. Keep the black-and-white master, and label any coloured version clearly.

Choose the Display Role Before the Size

Bolot’s current metal print formats each fill a clear role:

  • The Keepsake Trio: three 13×9 cm desk prints with three separate metal stands, sold only as the complete desk set.
  • The Legacy Print Classic: 30×20 cm wall print with its supplied indoor magnetic wall-mount kit.
  • The Legacy Print Statement: 42×30 cm wall print with its supplied indoor magnetic wall-mount kit.
  • Cinematic wall formats: The Cinematic (21×14 cm), The Cinematic Print Classic (30×20 cm) and The Cinematic Print Statement (42×30 cm), each with its supplied indoor magnetic wall-mount kit.

A desk set can hold three moments, or give one print each to three relatives. A wall format gives one photo more presence. Cut paper shapes at the true size. View them from the chair, doorway or bed where the print will sit.

For Legacy and Cinematic wall formats, the included tool-free magnetic wall-mount kit is intended for a compatible dry indoor wall. Follow the supplied instructions and hang the print exactly 1 minute after installing the kit. Compatibility is not universal.

Set the Crop and Finish Deliberately

Set the crop for the exact format you chose. Guard faces, hair, hands and any object that holds meaning. A room preview can help with layout and scale. It is not a colour-accurate physical proof, and it cannot show surface reflections.

Glossy reflects more room light and can lift apparent contrast. Matte looks softer and cuts reflections, though some stay. Check the wall in daylight and with lamps on before you choose. Standard Bolot photo prints are indoor products with no UV laminate, so avoid prolonged direct sunlight, splashes, persistent humidity and outdoor exposure.

If Bolot proposes a meaningful crop or correction, it waits up to five business days for your answer. An approved proposal becomes the production reference. Without a reply, production uses the original crop submitted with the order—not the unapproved suggestion.

Give a Memorial Print Without Turning Grief Into a Deadline

There is no right date for a memorial gift. A funeral, birthday or anniversary may suit one family and be too much for another. Ask first. Offer the photo in private, and leave room for the person to say no or pick another image.

Use the current checkout estimate for making and delivery. Add some buffer. Do not promise it will arrive for a ceremony unless a dated service has been confirmed for that order.

Support and Returns

A conforming personalised item is not eligible for a voluntary change-of-mind return. That does not remove your mandatory statutory rights or remedies.

The photograph supplies the meaning. Good source files, an honest crop and a display spot suited to the product help the finished print serve that memory, without overblown claims about permanence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Choose a frame that the recipient recognises and wants to live with, not one that merely looks formal. Check expression, focus, crop and the people or objects at the edges. Ask close family before using a sensitive image, and make sure you have permission to reproduce it.

Yes. Scan the original at a resolution appropriate to its physical size and intended output, save an unedited archival master, then work on a copy. Inspect faces, scratches, halftone patterns and any restoration at 100%. A fixed scan-DPI rule cannot guarantee detail that the source print never contained.

For a desk or shelf, The Keepsake Trio contains three 13×9 cm prints and three separate metal stands. The Legacy Print Classic 30×20 cm and The Legacy Print Statement 42×30 cm are wall formats. The Cinematic (21×14 cm), The Cinematic Print Classic (30×20 cm) and The Cinematic Print Statement (42×30 cm) are wall-only. Measure the exact indoor position before choosing.

No. Bolot photo prints are for dry indoor display only, have no UV laminate and should not be installed at an outdoor gravesite, even under a partial cover. Bolot offers no exterior or special-order photo print. The included magnetic wall-mount kit is for compatible indoor walls; the Address Sign is Bolot's only exterior product.

Use the treatment that stays faithful to the memory and source. Black and white can simplify competing colour, while colour can preserve clothing, places and objects that matter. Inspect skin tones and shadow detail; neither treatment is inherently more respectful or more durable.

Bolot waits up to five business days for a response. If you approve the proposal, that version becomes the production reference. If no reply arrives, production uses the original crop submitted with the order, not the unapproved suggestion.

Verified quality support lets you report a manufacturing defect, transit damage, or wrong size, finish, or personalisation promptly after discovering the issue. This is an additional support channel only and does not shorten any applicable statutory period or remedy. A conforming personalised product is not eligible for a voluntary change-of-mind return. If Bolot approves a physical return, Bolot covers the return cost and provides instructions.
