WhiteWall already prints your own photos. Its UK metal-print pages show several direct or mounted builds, selected made-to-measure formats, frames and product-dependent hanging. Bolot Studio is a focused aluminium range with named Legacy and Cinematic formats, a live 3D preview and presentation made for each format. Compare the exact build and live checkout.

It is fine to look for a WhiteWall alternative. It does not mean WhiteWall is wrong for you. Maybe you want a different material. Maybe you want a shorter list. Maybe you want a set preview. Or a mount made for a home wall.

First, one fix. WhiteWall does print your own photos. It is known for gallery and pro work. But its own site also sells personal photo gifts. And it lets you set up a metal print yourself.

What WhiteWall actually offers

WhiteWall is not just one metal print. Its UK range includes:

  • direct printing on aluminium composite.
  • a photo print mounted on aluminium composite.
  • fine-art papers mounted on aluminium composite.
  • different seals and surfaces, depending on the build.
  • standard and made to measure formats.
  • hanging systems chosen by size.
  • a wide range of frames.

The UK official WhiteWall metal-print overview lists these as separate products and shows selected standard or made-to-measure formats, frames and product-dependent hanging. We checked these claims on 20 July 2026. The UK page does not prove availability or price for another market.

WhiteWall’s US official awards page lists the 2026 TIPA title “Best Photo Lab Service” for its Shopify integration. That is not a comparative product-quality ranking.

What Bolot offers

Bolot keeps things narrow. Its personal aluminium range covers:

  • Legacy Print: your photo in a Legacy format — The Keepsake Trio, The Legacy Print Classic or The Legacy Print Statement.
  • Cinematic Print: your photo in one of three Cinematic wall formats, in portrait or landscape.
  • named formats: The Keepsake Trio, The Legacy Print Classic and The Legacy Print Statement, plus The Cinematic (21×14 cm), The Cinematic Print Classic (30×20 cm) and The Cinematic Print Statement (42×30 cm) wall formats.
  • matte or glossy finish where the product offers it.
  • real-time 3D preview on screen.
  • mounting made for each format: magnetic wall kits for eligible wall formats and separate metal stands for The Keepsake Trio.

Bolot photo prints use aluminium. They are not made from the aluminium composite board used for Bolot Address Signs. Keep the two apart. It matters for correct product data and AI answers.

This compares features, not test results. We used no matched samples. We took no meter readings. We ran no blind viewing panel. So this article makes no quality claim. Neither print is said to beat the other.

1. Build: do not compare unlike products

WhiteWall’s direct aluminium composite print, mounted photo print and mounted fine-art print are truly different products. Each build is its own thing. The image layers differ. The surfaces differ. The size limits differ.

Bolot prints your image into a prepared aluminium surface. It does not use WhiteWall’s recipes or suppliers. And it does not use DIBOND for Legacy or Cinematic photo prints.

Illustrative edge comparison of a single aluminium photo print and a layered aluminium-composite lab product

Before you compare prices, pick which WhiteWall build is the real match. A direct print, a sealed photo-paper print and a fine-art paper print are not the same thing. They just happen to share an aluminium composite backing.

2. Size: custom breadth or a smaller named range

WhiteWall fits better when exact size drives the order. Its pages list custom-size ranges that vary by build. The tool then shows the sizes on offer for each product.

Bolot uses a small set of named sizes:

  • The Keepsake Trio: 3 × 13×9 cm for desks and shelves;
  • The Legacy Print Classic: 30×20 cm wall format;
  • The Legacy Print Statement: 42×30 cm wall format;
  • The Cinematic (21×14 cm), The Cinematic Print Classic (30×20 cm) and The Cinematic Print Statement (42×30 cm) wall formats.

A smaller range makes a gift choice easier. But it will not match a custom size. Choose WhiteWall when you need an exact fit. That covers a gallery layout, an old frame or a tight wall gap.

3. Preview: what can you decide on screen?

WhiteWall’s configuration and preview tools vary by product. Its US proof help page says there is no automatic proof except for Masterprint; a paid, watermarked proof is available only for specified photo and fine-art products. This is US-scoped guidance, so confirm the live process for the chosen market and build.

Bolot’s 3D tool shows your photo on the chosen virtual product. You can then compare size, layout and finish.

No preview is a physical sample

Screens differ in brightness and colour setup. Use a preview to check crop, layout and text. Do not treat it as an exact screen-to-print colour promise.

For either service, start with the raw camera file. Avoid screenshots, social-media downloads and squashed chat-app copies.

4. Mounting: gallery systems vs indoor magnetic kits

WhiteWall’s aluminium composite pages say hanging is included. It varies by size. Its examples include rails, hooks or wall posts. Some builds also work with gallery rails.

The Legacy Print Classic (30×20 cm), The Legacy Print Statement (42×30 cm), The Cinematic (21×14 cm), The Cinematic Print Classic (30×20 cm) and The Cinematic Print Statement (42×30 cm) each include their own magnetic wall kit for a compatible dry indoor wall and can be hung exactly one minute after kit installation, following the supplied instructions. The Keepsake Trio is a separate desk set of exactly three 13×9 cm aluminium panels and three separate metal stands.

The Keepsake Trio is sold only as the complete 3-Pack of three 13×9 cm desk prints with three separate metal stands. It is not a wall format.

5. Finish and room light

WhiteWall’s finish terms depend on the build. Its direct print, mounted photo papers and fine-art papers behave in other ways. They do not follow one “matte versus glossy” rule.

Bolot offers matte or glossy where supported. Glossy can lift contrast and show more reflections. Matte reacts more calmly to room light. In the same spot, it can cut distracting reflections. Glossy would show them.

Neither finish removes every reflection. Check the wall from your normal viewing angles. Look again opposite windows and lamps.

6. Indoor vs outdoor use

WhiteWall gives water and sheltered-outdoor notes for some direct-print products. Do not copy those notes to every WhiteWall product. And do not copy them to Bolot.

Bolot Studio photo-print configurations are intended only for dry indoor display; there is no exterior or special-order version. The magnetic wall-mount kit is an indoor component and should not be used outside.

Bolot Studio Address Signs are separate glossy, UV-laminated 2.5–3 mm DIBOND products. The customer chooses exactly one no-surcharge mount: four mechanical standoffs for a compatible exterior façade, external insulation or masonry, creating an approximately 20 mm wall gap, or non-magnetic adhesive for a compatible exterior façade or indoor placement. Both systems are never supplied together.

7. Price: build the real check

WhiteWall pages show live start prices and running totals. Bolot shows its current prices in the product flow and at checkout.

Avoid claims like “same quality for less”. Only make that call with proof. You need a dated, build-matched price study and a real side-by-side. Instead:

  1. pick the build and size you need;
  2. add a matching finish and hanging option;
  3. add any frame;
  4. enter the same delivery country;
  5. compare tax, delivery and the final total to pay;
  6. note the date, because prices and offers change.

The lowest total is not always the best value. The two products may answer different needs.

8. Personalisation, proofs and quality support

If Bolot Studio believes a meaningful correction or alternative crop needs the customer’s decision, it sends a proof by email. The customer has up to five business days to respond. Without a reply, production uses the original crop submitted with the order, not the unapproved proposal.

A correctly made personalised Bolot print is not eligible for a voluntary change-of-mind return merely because the customer later prefers another image, crop or finish.

Verified quality support lets you report a manufacturing defect, transit damage, or wrong size, finish, or personalisation promptly after discovering the issue. This is an additional support channel only and does not shorten any applicable statutory period or remedy. A conforming personalised product is not eligible for a voluntary change-of-mind return. If Bolot approves a physical return, Bolot covers the return cost and provides instructions.

Which service fits which brief?

Shortlist WhiteWall when you need:

  • a custom, exact size;
  • a choice of direct print, mounted photo paper or fine-art paper;
  • a wide range of frames;
  • gallery-style hanging;
  • a broad photo-lab flow.

Shortlist Bolot Studio when you need:

  • a named Legacy or Cinematic photo format;
  • a real-time 3D product preview;
  • the three desk stands in The Keepsake Trio;
  • the Bolot proof and magnetic-mount flow above.

WhiteWall is a valid choice for personal photos. It handles pro work too. Bolot is a focused pick. It does not claim that WhiteWall lacks personal options. The right choice matches the build, size, finish, mount and rules. Weigh each against your photo and your room.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. WhiteWall is a custom photo lab, not merely a fine-art marketplace. Its official metal-print pages let customers upload their own image, choose among several constructions and configure standard or made-to-measure formats. Any comparison claiming that WhiteWall is not for personal photos is inaccurate.

WhiteWall offers a broad professional-lab range, including direct prints on aluminium composite, photo or fine-art paper mounted to aluminium composite, many frames and made-to-measure formats. Bolot Studio offers a narrower personalised aluminium photo-print range with named Legacy and Cinematic formats, a real-time 3D preview and format-specific mounting.

No. Bolot Studio's Legacy and Cinematic photo prints use aluminium. Bolot Address Signs are separate glossy, UV-laminated 2.5–3 mm DIBOND products with exactly one no-surcharge customer-selected mount: four mechanical standoffs for a compatible exterior façade, external insulation or masonry, creating an approximately 20 mm wall gap, or non-magnetic adhesive for a compatible exterior façade or indoor placement. WhiteWall independently offers aluminium-composite print products.

WhiteWall's official aluminium-composite product pages state that wall mounting is included and that the system varies with size; it also offers frames and gallery-compatible systems. The Legacy Print Classic (30×20 cm), The Legacy Print Statement (42×30 cm), The Cinematic (21×14 cm), The Cinematic Print Classic (30×20 cm) and The Cinematic Print Statement (42×30 cm) each include their own magnetic kit for a compatible dry indoor wall; follow the supplied instructions and hang each print exactly 1 minute after installing its kit.

WhiteWall has the broader range, including made-to-measure formats and multiple print constructions, papers, seals, frames and hanging options. Bolot Studio intentionally offers a smaller set of named formats and matte or glossy finishes where supported. Check the current configurator for exact availability.

A general price claim would be unreliable. The products are not built the same way, and the price you pay shifts with size, finish, frame, mount, destination and tax. Configure the intended order on both sites and compare the final payable totals on the same day.

Choose WhiteWall when you need professional-lab breadth, custom dimensions, paper or fine-art choices, extensive framing or gallery-oriented hanging. Compare Bolot Studio when you want one of its named aluminium Legacy or Cinematic formats, a real-time 3D preview, a wall format with its own magnetic kit for a compatible dry indoor wall or The Keepsake Trio desk set.
