Bolot Studio uses its printing process to transfer a customer's photograph into the prepared surface of aluminium. Quality begins with a suitable original file, an intentional crop and the correct finish for the room. If we propose a change that needs approval, we email a proof and wait up to five business days; without a reply, we use the original crop submitted with the order.
The important part of a custom print is not a workshop story. It is whether your photo, size and finish work together. It is also whether you know what happens before we print.
This guide covers the quality choices you can see behind a Bolot Studio metal photo print. It does not share supplier names, recipes or exact machine settings. Those stay private. The facts that affect your order should not.
What “printed on metal” means here
Bolot Studio photo prints use aluminium. The colour is transferred into a prepared surface. It is not left as a loose paper layer behind glass.
That tells you what to compare:
- the finished piece is frameless aluminium;
- the image reacts to light in a different way from paper or canvas;
- matte and glossy surfaces look clearly different;
- the surface still needs care and can be scratched by sharp objects.
It does not mean we can match every screen colour exactly. It does not mean the surface can never be damaged. And a standard indoor print is not automatically fit for permanent outdoor display.
Quality starts with the source photo
A print cannot show detail that is not in the file. The best starting point is the original photo from your camera or phone. Avoid a screenshot, a messaging-app copy or an image saved from social media.
Before ordering, check four things:
- Resolution: zoom in and look for blocky edges, smeared faces or fake sharpening.
- Focus: the person, pet or detail that matters should be truly sharp.
- Crop: keep faces, hands, text and key objects away from the trim edge.
- Editing: do not stack filters. Heavy compression and strong colour can make skin tones harder to print.
Low light is not always a problem. A little grain can be part of the mood. What matters is whether the detail you have supports the size you chose.
Pro Tip
Send the original file when you can. If you are choosing between two versions, keep both and tell us which part of the photo must not be cropped.
When we send a proof
We review the submitted file and crop for suitability. Many orders can follow the customer’s chosen crop directly. If we believe a meaningful correction or alternative crop needs your decision, we email a proof.
The approval flow is intentionally clear:
- review the proposed version on a reasonably colour-accurate screen;
- reply if you approve it or want a specific change;
- respond within five business days;
- if no reply arrives in that period, we produce from the original crop submitted with the order, not from our unapproved proposal.
Approval changes the production reference
If you approve a proposed crop or correction, that approved version becomes the reference for production. Check faces, edges, spelling and orientation before replying.
This proof step is about decisions that materially affect the result. It is not a promise that every file will receive creative retouching or an unlimited revision service.
Matte or glossy: choose for the room, not the thumbnail
The same photo can feel different on each finish.
Matte
Matte is the calmer choice. It helps where windows, lamps or angles could throw distracting reflections. It suits portraits, soft colours and rooms where you view the print from many spots.
Glossy
Glossy can make contrast and colour feel bolder. But it also reflects more of the room. It works best when you can place it away from windows and direct light.
Neither finish is always “better”. A preview helps you plan the layout. But it cannot show the exact brightness, texture or shine of a real surface.
What the equipment does—and what people decide
Controlled equipment handles the transfer. People make the judgement calls: they check the source image, spot a risky crop, flag a correction and resolve any reported issue.
That is more honest than hinting at a manual step at every stage. We do not invent an inspection ritual, a named coating grade or an unsupported production-performance promise.
We keep exact supplier details, transfer settings and process controls private. That does not stop us being clear about what you receive. You get aluminium, the size and finish you ordered, and the mount included with that format.
The mounting system is part of the configuration
The Legacy Print Classic, The Legacy Print Statement and all Cinematic wall formats each include their own magnetic kit for a compatible dry indoor wall. Follow the supplied instructions and hang each print exactly 1 minute after kit installation.
The Keepsake Trio is sold only as the complete 3-Pack of three 13×9 cm desk prints with three separate metal stands. It is not a wall format.
Legacy and Cinematic photo prints are for dry indoor display only, and Bolot offers no exterior or special-order version. Their magnetic wall kits are for compatible indoor walls. The Address Sign is Bolot's only exterior product.
Caring for the finished print
Good care is simple:
- hold the print with clean, dry hands, and support it rather than bending it;
- remove loose dust before wiping;
- use a clean, soft microfibre cloth;
- avoid rough pads, sharp objects and harsh cleaners;
- keep standard indoor prints away from damp and direct weather.
The surface can take normal, careful cleaning. But it can still be scratched, so treat it with care.
What happens if something is wrong
Photograph the packaging and product promptly if the parcel arrives damaged, the ordered specification is wrong or you find a possible production defect. Contact support with the order number and clear images so the cause can be assessed.
The end result
A strong metal print comes from a good source file, a careful crop, a finish chosen for the room and a mount used as instructed. Those are clear choices you can check.
The memory gives it meaning. Aluminium gives it a distinct physical form. Our job is to make the order choices clear and provide verified quality support if the delivered product does not match what was agreed.

Frequently Asked Questions
We use dye-sublimation to transfer the image into the prepared surface of aluminium. This gives the print its frameless metal form and distinctive colour response. We explain the material and customer-facing result, while keeping supplier specifications and exact production settings confidential.
We check whether the submitted file and crop are suitable for the ordered format. If we believe a meaningful correction or different crop needs your decision, we send a proof by email. You then have up to five business days to reply; if you do not respond, we use the original crop submitted with the order.
No physical print can be guaranteed to match every screen exactly because displays differ in brightness, colour settings and calibration. The chosen matte or glossy finish also changes perceived contrast and reflections. Use the original image file and avoid judging colour from a heavily filtered screenshot.
Controlled equipment performs the transfer. Our team handles the image checks and the order decisions that need judgement. We do not claim a named manual inspection step unless we can evidence it for your order.
Production takes 1-3 business days. Shipping transit and cost vary by destination. Check the current delivery estimate shown on the product page and at checkout; it is not a guaranteed arrival date unless we expressly confirm it for your order.
The Legacy Print Classic 30×20 cm and The Legacy Print Statement 42×30 cm, together with The Cinematic (21×14 cm), The Cinematic Print Classic (30×20 cm) and The Cinematic Print Statement (42×30 cm), are wall formats with their supplied indoor magnetic kits. The Keepsake Trio contains exactly three separate 13×9 cm desk prints and exactly three separate metal stands; it is not a wall format.
Verified quality support lets you report a manufacturing defect, transit damage, or wrong size, finish, or personalisation promptly after discovering the issue. This is an additional support channel only and does not shorten any applicable statutory period or remedy. A conforming personalised product is not eligible for a voluntary change-of-mind return. If Bolot approves a physical return, Bolot covers the return cost and provides instructions.
