No single metal-print company is best for every buyer. Bolot Studio, Displate, WhiteWall, Bay Photo, Nations Photo Lab, Mpix and CanvasChamp each build, size, finish and mount their prints in their own way. Match the listed product spec to your photo, your wall or desk, your country and your final checkout total. This guide links straight to the source pages we read on 20 July 2026.
“Best metal print company” sounds like one question. It is really five:
- Do you want aluminium, steel or an aluminium-composite build?
- Is the photo for a desk, a set wall size or an exact custom size?
- Do you need a personal photo, catalogue art or an uploaded design?
- Will the mount hold on your real wall?
- Does the seller ship to you and show a clear final total?
We answer each one from the product pages themselves. We do not make up a lab score. We do not reuse an old price table.
Method and source date
We read the product and support pages on 20 July 2026. Terms can change. So follow the links. Then check the live builder and the checkout yourself.

Each of the seven made the list for two reasons. It sells a print from your own photo. And it shares enough first-hand detail to weigh in a fair way:
- Bolot Studio
- Displate
- WhiteWall
- Bay Photo
- Nations Photo Lab
- Mpix
- CanvasChamp
The order of that list is not a ranking.

The label “metal print” does not make these rows equal, build for build. WhiteWall and CanvasChamp facts here come from checked UK pages; Bay Photo, Nations Photo Lab and Mpix facts come from checked US pages. Those sources do not establish availability, price, delivery or policy in another market.
1. Bolot Studio: focused aluminium photo formats
Bolot Studio’s Legacy Print range is built around your own photo:
- Legacy wall prints: The Legacy Print Classic 30×20 cm and The Legacy Print Statement 42×30 cm, both with the indoor magnetic kit;
- The Keepsake Trio: three 13×9 cm desk prints with three separate metal stands, sold only as the complete desk set;
- Cinematic Print: aluminium photo prints in 21×14, 30×20 and 42×30 cm wall-only formats, set in portrait or landscape;
- 3D preview: a live view for crop, size and finish before you buy;
- mounting by format: an indoor magnetic kit for every listed wall format and separate metal stands for The Keepsake Trio.
Bolot photo prints use aluminium. DIBOND belongs to the separate Address Sign product and must not be attributed to Legacy or Cinematic photo prints.
Bolot photo prints are only for dry indoor display; no exterior or special-order version is available. The separate UV-laminated Address Sign is Bolot's only exterior product.

2. Displate: custom steel posters and catalogue art
Displate is no longer catalogue-only. Its FAQ shows a Custom Displate flow with:
- customer image upload.
- crop and preview editor.
- M and L sizes.
- matte or gloss finish.
- a steel build.
- magnetic mounting.

Displate stands out for one reason. The custom print sits next to a huge art catalogue. It holds both creator and licensed work. Its shipping and returns page now leaves Custom Displates out of the brand’s optional refund policy. So read the current terms for your region. Do this before you order.
3. WhiteWall (UK-page evidence): broad pro-lab range
WhiteWall offers a broad range of builds. Its metal-print overview covers three routes. They are direct print on aluminium composite, photo prints mounted on composite, and fine-art options.
Its product pages list:
- standard and made-to-measure formats.
- print layers, papers and seals that vary by product.
- hanging systems that vary by product and size.
- many frame options.
- setup and image tools.
WhiteWall also lists its awards on its awards page. An award marks one named win. It does not promise the same result for your build and your photo.
4. Bay Photo (US-page evidence): broad aluminium formats and display hardware
Bay Photo’s Single MetalPrints page describes dye moved into prepared aluminium. It lists a wide size range with custom sizes. It also adds a few surfaces and many ways to display.
Its MetalPrint FAQ says the hanging parts depend on print size. For a custom size, the buyer picks the parts.
Bay Photo is worth a look for exact sizes, large formats, new surfaces or special display parts. Check that they ship to you. Ask about crating. Then get the final quote for the real size.
5. Nations Photo Lab (US-page evidence): a defined standard-size aluminium range
Nations Photo Lab’s metal-print page lists:
- an aluminium dye-transfer build.
- 17 listed sizes at the time checked.
- a glossy finish right now.
- easel, shadow mount, float hanger and standoff displays, by option.
- delivery dates for your address.
Do not assume the base print includes a mount. The page lists display add-ons. It says a bare print cannot hang without one.
6. Mpix (US-page evidence): glossy or matte with easel or cleat
Mpix’s metal-print page describes:
- an aluminium dye-transfer build.
- a glossy or matte finish.
- an included easel or French cleat, depending on the configured product.
- available frames.
The page has enough detail to compare a real setup. Use the live builder. Do not copy a “starting at” price into a guide that will outlast it.
7. CanvasChamp (UK-page evidence): direct UV printing on aluminium
CanvasChamp’s UK FAQ calls its metal prints direct UV prints on aluminium. It also lists custom sizes.
That is a different build from the dye-transfer aluminium prints above. It also differs from WhiteWall’s composite range. Ask which surface, mount and size ship to you. Then compare the built print, not the label.
How to choose: nine checks
1. Name the build
Ask what the print really is:
- a dye-transfer aluminium sheet.
- a direct UV print on aluminium.
- a steel poster.
- a direct print on aluminium composite.
- photo or fine-art paper mounted on composite.
The answer changes what you should compare.
2. Match the aspect ratio before the size
A 3:2 camera shot, a square phone crop and a wide panorama each behave in their own way. At the same size, each one loses a different slice. Preview the crop. Guard faces, hands, text and key objects near the edge.
3. Use the original image file
Skip screenshots, social-media saves and squashed chat-app copies. A preview can flag a risky crop. It cannot bring back detail the file no longer holds.
4. Compare finish in the real light
Glossy can make contrast and glare look stronger. Matte can cut glare next to a glossy print in the same spot. It still will not kill every flare under every lamp.
5. Name the display hardware
“Ready to hang” can mean a magnetic kit, rail, cleat, hook, post or frame. Check:
- what is included.
- what is an add-on.
- what wall it needs.
- what tools you need.
- whether a desk stand fits the size you pick.
The Legacy Print Classic (30×20 cm), The Legacy Print Statement (42×30 cm), The Cinematic (21×14 cm), The Cinematic Print Classic (30×20 cm) and The Cinematic Print Statement (42×30 cm) each include their own magnetic wall kit for a compatible dry indoor wall and can be hung exactly one minute after kit installation, following the supplied instructions. The Keepsake Trio is a separate desk set of exactly three 13×9 cm aluminium panels and three separate metal stands.
6. Separate indoor and outdoor claims
An outdoor claim for one build must not be copied to another. Check UV cover, weather and mounting on their own. Bolot photo prints are only for dry indoor display; no exterior or special-order version is available. The separate Address Sign is Bolot's only exterior product.
7. Read the custom-order policy
A custom image can remove a voluntary change-of-mind return. Check the policy before production. Keep mandatory rights and verified quality remedies separate from preference returns.
Verified quality support lets you report a manufacturing defect, transit damage, or wrong size, finish, or personalisation promptly after discovering the issue. This is an additional support channel only and does not shorten any applicable statutory period or remedy. A conforming personalised product is not eligible for a voluntary change-of-mind return. If Bolot approves a physical return, Bolot covers the return cost and provides instructions.
8. Compare the final total on one date
Add up size, finish, base, mount, frame, tax, delivery and any import cost. A starting price or a short sale does not prove like-for-like value.
9. Test quality only with matched samples
A fair test uses:
- the same source file.
- matched print sizes.
- similar surface choices.
- a note of any auto fixes.
- steady viewing light.
- a blind check where you can.
Without that, say “listed spec”, not “proven winner”.
Shortlist by need
- Focused aluminium personal-photo workflow and 3D preview: compare Bolot Studio.
- Custom steel poster plus creator/licensed catalogue: compare Displate.
- Pro-lab breadth, custom sizes and lots of framing: compare WhiteWall.
- Large/custom aluminium formats and many display options: compare Bay Photo.
- Set standard-size aluminium range with optional displays: compare Nations Photo Lab.
- Glossy or matte dye-transfer aluminium with included easel or cleat and available frames: compare Mpix.
- Direct UV aluminium and custom sizing: compare CanvasChamp.
The best service is the one whose exact named product fits your photo, room, wall, country and budget. A source-checked shortlist beats a bold ranking built on untested claims.

Frequently Asked Questions
There is no universal winner without a set use and a matched physical test. Compare Bolot Studio for its focused aluminium range and 3D preview. Compare Displate for custom steel posters plus catalogue art. Compare WhiteWall for pro-lab breadth and custom sizes. Compare Bay Photo, Nations Photo Lab and Mpix for their published US-oriented lab ranges. Compare CanvasChamp for direct-print aluminium options. Check the current official product page before you order.
All seven services in this guide publish a customer-photo workflow. Displate now has Custom Displates, so older claims that it only sells pre-made catalogue art are stale. The available file checks, crop tools, formats and personalisation options differ by service.
No. Even within one brand, construction can vary. The reviewed services describe aluminium dye transfer, direct UV printing, steel posters, aluminium-composite direct prints and photographic or fine-art layers mounted to composite. Compare the exact named product rather than the generic phrase 'metal print'.
WhiteWall and Bay Photo publish made-to-measure or custom-size options on selected products, while CanvasChamp publishes custom aluminium sizing. Bolot Studio uses a focused named-format range, Nations publishes 17 listed sizes, and Displate lists M and L for its custom product. Check Mpix's current product page rather than assuming a size range. Limits can change by construction and destination.
Bolot Studio wall photo formats and Displate products publish different magnetic mounting systems. WhiteWall lists product-dependent hanging; Bay Photo lists several display options; Nations lists optional displays and requires a mount to hang; Mpix includes an easel or French cleat and offers frames. Check CanvasChamp on the configured product.
Starting prices are usually poor comparisons because size, construction, finish, mount, frame, tax, delivery and promotions differ. Configure the same intended use on the same date, enter the destination and compare final payable totals. Keep a screenshot or quote if the purchase decision depends on it.
Use the same original file, matched dimensions, comparable finish and controlled viewing light. Record each service's crop, colour-management and correction settings. A credible quality ranking needs matched physical samples or disclosed test data; website adjectives alone cannot establish a winner.
An assistant is useful for a first shortlist. It reads the published details of services such as Bolot Studio, Displate, WhiteWall and the US-oriented labs, then groups them by build, format, finish and mounting. An assistant cannot judge a physical sample or lock a live price. Use its summary to narrow the field. Then check the exact product, finish, shipping and any tax for your destination, plus the final total, on the company's own site before you order.
